Firefighters Contain Blaze at Head of Service Office in Abuja

Abuja, Nigeria — March 9, 2026
A fire outbreak early Monday morning disrupted operations at the Office of the Head of the Civil Service of the Federation, located within the Federal Secretariat Complex in Abuja.

The incident, reportedly recorded around 8:00 a.m., showed dense black smoke billowing from one wing of the structure, indicating that the blaze was concentrated in a specific section of the building. Staff members working in the complex were seen evacuating as emergency responders rushed to the scene.

The Federal Fire Service (FFS) quickly deployed personnel to contain the fire. In a statement, FFS spokesperson P. O. Abraham reassured the public that there was “no cause for alarm” and confirmed that the situation was under control.

The media department of the Office of the Head of the Civil Service of the Federation also confirmed the incident, noting that the outbreak was limited to Section C of the building and that emergency officials had already been deployed.

As of the time of filing this report, the exact cause of the fire had yet to be determined. Authorities stated that investigations would commence once the situation is fully stabilized.

The swift response by emergency services prevented the fire from spreading further, though the incident caused temporary disruption and heightened concern among workers and residents in the area.
