Ghana Government Unveils New Digital Literacy Policy to Transform Basic Education

The Government of Ghana has officially launched a comprehensive digital literacy policy targeted at basic schools across the country. This strategic move aims to bridge the technological divide and equip young learners with modern digital skills from an early age.

Bridging the Digital Divide in Basic Education

Speaking at the official launch in Accra, officials from the Ministry of Education emphasized that integrating information and communication technology (ICT) into the foundational curriculum is no longer optional. With the rapid evolution of the global economy, preparing students for a tech-driven future has become an urgent national priority.

The new framework outlines a phased rollout plan to supply basic schools with essential hardware, reliable internet connectivity, and specialized training programs for teachers. Education experts have lauded the initiative, noting that early exposure to coding, digital research, and computer fundamentals will significantly enhance academic outcomes.

Teacher Training and Infrastructure Development

A critical pillar of the newly unveiled digital literacy policy is educator capacity building. The government has partnered with private sector stakeholders to train thousands of teachers on how to effectively integrate digital tools into daily lesson plans.

Furthermore, regional education directorates have been tasked with monitoring infrastructure development to ensure that rural and underserved communities are not left behind in the national digitization drive. Parents and local leaders have expressed optimism, citing the potential to unlock new educational opportunities for children nationwide.
